Festivals in Malaysia

            Malaysia is a country which had difference race and the main race in Malaysia are Malay, Chinese and Hindu. Based on these difference races Malaysia had many festivals and the most representative these three races are Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year and Deepavali.

        Hari Raya Aidilfitri is celebrated by Muslim in Malaysia. " Hari Raya" is the means of Day of Celebration when Muslims recite a special prayer at the start of the day and during this festival. Malays will also visit the graves of deceased loved ones, to clean the grave sites, quote from the Quran and offer prayers for the departed. Young people take this opportunity to seek the forgiveness of their elders for any past misconduct. Muslim will visited their friend and relatives with bring their transitional food like ketupat or rendang. During this festival, the men wear a loose shirt with trousers known as " baju Melayu" and the women wear the quintessential " baju kurung".  Muslim families often dress in the same colour to signify their unity.

             Chinese New Year is celebrated by Chinese in Malaysia. Before Chinese New Year, homes were cleaned and decorated with red scrolls printed with lucky messages on household gate. At the first day of Chinese New Year, Chinese wear their transitional dress like Chongsam some of them dressed up will colorful shirt which means happy and auspicious. The people who was married will gave "ang pao" which is pocket money to the young people like a blessing to them.In addition, Chinese will set off firecrackers to frighten even spirits and they like to have their dinner with a circle table which mean reunion. Here had some interesting contraindications during Chinese New Year like can not sweep the floor because it means that sweep the wealth. 

               For Deepavali is celebrated by Hindu in Malaysia. Deepavali is also called "festival of lights"  which means the victory of light over darkness, good over evil and hope over despair. Before Deepavali, people clean, renovate and decorate their home by using Rangoli decoration which is a picture draw by colour powder. Deepavali celebrations in  early in the morning. The eldest family member applies sesame oil on the heads of all the family members. Then, it's off for a bath, beginning with the youngest in the family. They emerge with new clothes and a look of anticipation at the thought of bursting crackers, which symbolizes the killing of the demon king Narakasur. On Deepavali night, Hindus having their transitional food and share the sweets with family members, they also exchange gifts between family members and friends as a wish.

           Although Malaysia have many difference religions festivals, all races also can celebrated together. It is a good way to show that Malaysia is a multicultural country but all of us live together with peace. Hence, I am proud I was one of the Malaysian.
